Sam Caruso Private Care Therapies

Sam Caruso is a speech-language pathologist at Private Care Therapies who specializes in helping adults improve communication, swallowing, and cognitive function so they can remain safe, independent, and engaged in daily life. His work is grounded in the belief that therapy should always be meaningful, functional, and closely aligned with each individual’s real-world goals.

Sam works with clients across a wide range of neurologic and age-related conditions, including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive changes. He is passionate about expanding awareness of what speech-language therapy truly encompasses, far beyond articulation alone, and helping clients and families understand how communication, cognition, and swallowing directly affect quality of life.

His clinical expertise includes treatment of speech and voice disorders, such as dysarthria, apraxia of speech, and voice changes related to neurologic conditions. Sam frequently works with individuals who experience reduced vocal volume, clarity, or endurance, helping them develop more effective and efficient ways to be heard and understood. He also supports clients with professional or daily voice demands through education on vocal health and sustainable voice use.

Sam has extensive experience treating language disorders, including aphasia following stroke. He uses evidence-based, creative approaches, such as rhythm-based and semantic strategies, to help clients improve word-finding, comprehension, and expressive communication. His work is always tailored to what clients want and need to communicate in their own lives.

A significant focus of Sam’s practice is swallowing therapy, an often-overlooked area that plays a critical role in safety and overall health. He evaluates and treats swallowing difficulties using individualized strategies that may include compensatory techniques, muscle strengthening, and education around safe eating and drinking. His goal is to reduce risk while helping clients maintain comfort, confidence, and enjoyment around meals whenever possible.

Sam also provides cognitive rehabilitation, addressing areas such as memory, attention, and problem-solving. He is certified to administer the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), which allows him to screen for cognitive changes and guide next steps in care when appropriate.

Across all areas of practice, Sam emphasizes rapport, collaboration, and shared goals. He believes therapy is most effective when clients feel understood and when interventions directly support independence in daily routines; not exercises disconnected from real life. Clients often describe him as thoughtful, approachable, and deeply invested in helping them succeed.

At Private Care Therapies, Sam provides personalized, in-home speech-language therapy, designed to support communication, cognition, and swallowing in ways that fit each individual’s life. Because progress matters most when it carries over beyond the session.
